Same place...

Same paints...

different timing...

 

I still remember the day when I set up my portable easel up on the streets of scarborough and getting out my brushes ready to paint my  three canvases. I set up my little base there for the whole day, from morning to night. Initially, I wanted to explore the diffrent lighting effects on different times of day and how I can manipulate colour and strokes to reflect this, but in turn, I discovered a lot more than I expected....

At first, people just stared at me and walked past but when the paintings started taking shape, I attracted some public attention. Both locals and tourists came and asked about my painting and complimented me. The residents to the lefyt of the street offered me a drink whenever i needed a rest. To me, this was a really valuable experience, not only to paint in the actualy environment (also in the wind and rain!) and to deepen my painting techniques, it made me feel the inner heart of Scarborugh, such as social attitudes, the compassion of the people around me, unique atmosphere that my little setup has provided. This is the feeling of art that my paintings show, not just the structure, composition and lighting.
